SONEUK organised webinar on challenges of the road sector in Nepal


London – The Society of Nepalese Engineers in UK (SONEUK), in collaboration with Society of Transport Engineers Nepal (SOTEN), organised “SONEUK Webinar Series 03 – entitled “The overall scenario and Challenges of the road sector in the changed context of federalism in Nepal”.
The webinar was presented by SOTEN President Dr Hare Ram Shrestha and actively participated in by engineers and transport experts from the UK, USA and Nepal.
The webinar highlighted on:
* Road status and institutional responsibility before the federalism era.
* Status of road infrastructure and the government’s responsibility.
* Major challenges in the road sector under federalism.
* Opportunities and way forward.
A two-hour 58-minute-long webinar was actively participated in by 57 professionals from three continents. Approximately 20 questions and concerns were answered by the resource person. The webinar emphasized the need for road safety, planning consistency/considerations, link-roads between strategic cities, and a control mechanism to minimise accidents.
During webinar Er Khim Thapa, Er Ghana Shyam Poudel, Er Krishna Kishore Shrestha, Er Laxman Ghimire, Er Shailendra Kaji Shrestha, Dr Amod Mani Dixit, Dr Brahmananda Sapkota, Er Suman Sapkota, Dr Bidur Ghimire, Er Rudra Koirala, Er Prem Lamsal, Dr Surya Ghimire and Er Debendra Dahal shared their thoughts and questions.
SONEUK General Secretary Er Manoj Pun welcomed participants. SOTEN General Secretary Er Hemant Tiwari emphasised the need for more collaborations in future events and R&D. SONEUK chairperson, Er. Subodh Timilsina, moderated sessions.
SONEUK chairperson, Er Timilsina, announced that the webinar series 04 will be held in April 2025, titled “Urban Transport in Nepal – Challenges and Opportunities,” and will be delivered by Er Prem Lamsal.
In his closing remarks, chairperson of SONEUK, Er. Subodh Timilsina, thanked Dr Hare Ram Shrestha for his very informative presentation and responding to over 25 queries. He praised Dr Shrestha as a seasoned engineering professional and excellent leader within the engineering fraternity and extended best wishes to the SOTEN’s upcoming International Conference scheduled on 11 to 13 April, 2025.
He also thanked all participants across three continents for their active engagement, thought-provoking questions and concerns.
