SONEUK Successfully Conducts First Webinar of 2025 on Budhigandaki Hydropower Project

London-The Society of Nepalese Engineers in the UK (SONEUK) successfully conducted its first webinar of 2025 on Saturday, 25th January 2025. The webinar, titled “Challenges and Opportunities of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project – 1200 MW”, was presented by Associate Professor of IOE/TU, former coordinator of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, and former CEO of Budhigandaki Jalbidhyut Company, Dr. Jagat Kumar Shrestha.

The event was attended by members of SONEUK, ASNEngr (American Society of Nepalese Engineers), NEA (Nepal Engineers’ Association), CNSUK (Centre for Nepalese Studies UK), and professionals from the UK, Nepal, and the USA.

The webinar, which lasted over two hours and thirty minutes, saw active participation from 40 attendees. More than 15 questions and concerns were addressed during the session.

In his closing remarks, the chairperson of SONEUK, Er. Subodh Timilsina, thanked Dr. Jagat Kumar Shrestha for his informative and detailed presentation, which highlighted the challenges and opportunities of the much-discussed Budhigandaki Hydropower Project and clarified participants’ questions and concerns. Mr. Timilsina also expressed gratitude to participants from three continents for their active engagement and thought-provoking contributions.

SONEUK announced the next webinar in the series, “Water Resources, Use of Underground Spaces, and Inter-Basin Water Transfer Projects in Nepal”, scheduled for Saturday, 15th February 2025, at 13:30 GMT. Further details will follow shortly.
