Nepali transport workers demand resignation of the South Korean President
Kathmandu – Nepal Transport Workers Union (NETWON) has condemned what it calls the
unlawful imposition of martial law by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Union has expressed its full and unwavering solidarity with the workers of South Korea and their brave stand against the anti-democratic action of President Yoon which ‘violates the fundamental rights and freedoms of workers and undermines the principles of democracy that we all uphold.’
“At this critical moment, the workers of South Korea are not only defending their own rights but also standing up for the rights of workers globally. President Yoon’s actions, such as the attempts to ban strikes, stop political activities, and silence protests, are typical of authoritarian regimes and have no place in a democratic society. NETWON stands with Korean unions and supports their call for justice, democracy, and respect for workers’ rights,” the statement signed jointly by President of the Unio, Dharma Raj Bhandari, and Chief of the International Affairs Department, Ajay Kumar Rai, said.
“We join our brothers and sisters in South Korea, as well as the International Transport Workers’ Federation, in demanding the immediate resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol and an end to this brutal crackdown on the democratic freedoms of the Korean people. Together, we will continue to fight for the protection of workers’ rights and human dignity, for today and for future generations,” the statement said.
