NAS-IT organises international conference to promote IT in Nepal

Delft, The Netherlands – Nepal Association for Software and IT Services Companies (NAS-IT) organised a conference last month with a view to promote Nepal as an emerging tech hub.

Founding Member of NAS-IT, Roshan Bhattarai, said the programme was organised to introduce Nepal’s IT sector among the Nepali diaspora. “We would like to convey to Nepali diaspora that IT sector has a great potential to contribute to Nepal’s development and we want Nepali diaspora to be part of that process,” he added.

Making a presentation on his research “Responsible AI framework for healthcare in low resource countries – Case study: Nepal & Ghana,” Er Hari Krishna Neupane talked mainly about benefits of responsible AI to improve healthcare system in countries  like Nepal and Ghana. Highlighting on the urgency of implementing AI regulation in healthcare sector to minimize the  safety related  risks, Mr Neupane said adding, unregulated AI system could raise other ethical issues as well in relation to patients and whole society.


Similarly, Sanjay Kandel made a presentation on the theme “Why Cyber Security Is more Important in Nepal,” Ajay Adhikari shared the outcome of his research on Artificial intelligence and DP Sharma Mainali made a presentation on  “Sustainable Utilization of Surplus Hydropower for Hydrogen Production – Nepal’s Prospective.”

Prof D P Sharma Mainali of the Hague University of Applied Sciences, who played a key role in organising the conference, made presentations regarding the objectives and outline of the conference.

Addressing the conference, Ambassador of Nepal for Benelex,  Gahendra Rajbhandari, said Nepal was emerging as a promising hub for IT services export and Nepal government was committed to support the private sector entrepreneurs. He also thanked the NAS-IT for their efforts to promote IT in Nepal.

The conference was organized jointly by  NAS-IT, Nepali Speaking Engineers’ Association of The Netherlands (NESA NL) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).

Representatives from Proshore Netherlands, Technical University Delft, The Hague University, NIC Europe, NRNA NCC The Netherlands, experts, business community and students took part in the conference.
